Why Is It A Good Time For Empty Nesters To Travel?

Time To Explore

Now that you have more free time, it just got a whole lot easier for you to explore other areas in this big, beautiful world!

As Empty Nesters, you may be starting to talk about downsizing, maybe relocating to a different city, state, or country. If so, you could easily combine a vacation with an exploration trip.

For some couples, however, it’s really hard to figure out where to move to, especially if they’ve lived in the same place for decades, or possibly their entire lives.

Visiting different states can give you a glimpse of what life would be like to live there, sort of a try-before-you-buy trip. Once you’ve narrowed your list down to a few contenders, you should probably visit each location again before making your final decision.

Travel With Ease

It’s likely been 18+ years since you’ve gone on a “just the two of you” trip. You can actually go where you want and do what you want…wow!

You can pack lightly and go when and where the mood takes you, fly midweek to avoid the crowds, or take that spontaneous road trip like you’ve always wanted to do.

Plan an itinerary on your own terms—move at a slower pace, like enjoying coffee and pastries at the local cafe before strolling through a cute little town.

Plan Your Vacations Together

Planning a vacation sometimes can be just as exciting as going on the trip, especially if couples do it together. From researching destinations and accommodations to choosing which activities you want to do. After that’s done, the next hurdle is the anticipation.

Empty Nester vacations are THE BEST!

Make Travel Bucket Lists

If it’s been awhile since you’ve been able to go on a vacation, you’ve probably been dreaming about the different places you’d like to visit.

Air Travel

If so, get started by creating your FREE EMPTY NESTER Air Travel Bucket List. Your list could include:

  • places you’ve already visited and loved, but wished you could have stayed longer;
  • destinations you’ve always wanted to explore, but couldn’t afford before;
  • vacation spots that were too far away to go to with limited vacation time; and
  • the places you always wanted to go, but they weren’t family-friendly.

Our Favorites

One place we would like to go back to is Huntington Beach, CA. Our family trip there in 2016 after we went to Disneyland, and had the best time together! In fact, when we go back we may even stay at the same hotel—Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort and Spa—we liked it that much! If you’re interested in staying there, you can find great rates at Booking.com.

Going back to Hawaii is also high on our list. We went there for our Honeymoon, and a few other times to different islands. Palm trees seems to be the theme here…

Road Trips

You might also want to plan some road trips with this FREE EMPTY NESTER Road Trip Bucket List. There’s something more freeing about road trips—no expensive airline reservations to have to adhere to, getting to the airport early (just to wait!), and no baggage fees or expensive car rental.

I’d love to hear about where you want to go…leave a comment!

Travel Accessories

When we travel, we like to keep travel as simple as possible. One of the biggest ways we do this is by no longer checking our bags, if we can help it (it depends on how long the trip will be).

We prefer carry-on luggage so that we don’t have to wait in the long check-in lines, pay extra fees, and then retrieve our luggage after we’ve landed. It makes traveling so much easier!

For most domestic flights, TSA’s carry-on size limits are 22″ x 14″ x 9″ (including handles and wheels). This can be challenging to find room for everything (we think) we need, but somehow we make it work! If you’re an over-packer like I am, you usually start out with a huge pile, condense it several times, then realize later that you still didn’t need hardly any of it!

Following are some recommended travel accessories:

  • Carry-on Luggage
  • Duffle Bags
  • Jewelry Case
  • Travel Size Containers
  • Travel Blanket/Pillow
  • Sleep Mask
  • Apple AirPods Ear Buds
  • Noise Cancelling Headphones
  • Crossword Puzzle Book
