As an Empty Nester Mom, you’re suddenly faced with an empty house and a blank calendar. This can leave you feeling a bit disoriented, as your entire daily routine has forever changed!
Aside from reconnecting with yourself, it’s also time to reconnect with your spouse.
You know, your greatest catch—the guy who’s always been there for you, throughout all the stages of your life? He may be sitting right there next to you…
Oh yeah, that guy!
So now that you’ve spotted him, you might be wondering what you should do with him! As most of your time was spent parenting, it’s likely been awhile since it’s been just the two of you. So, this might take a minute!
A good start would be to spend some time reminiscing about things you used to do together years ago. What hobbies did you share? What were some of your favorite places to go? What activities did you enjoy together?
For us, crabbing is one of those fun things we used to do together, and now we’re doing more of again.
Crabbing Is Great For Reconnecting After Empty Nesting
Have you always wanted to get into boating—and all the fun activities associated with it, such as crabbing—but just didn’t have the time nor the money for it, know much about it, or even how to get started?
If thoughts of a Crab Louie salad, or dipping chunks of freshly-caught crab meat into melted lemon butter makes your mouth water, you need to get into crabbing!
Crabbing is a slow-paced, relaxing way to spend time together.
Working as a team, you set the bait in the crab pots, check the lines, and toss them into the salty water. Then, turn on some good music, have lunch and good conversation, and hope the pots are filled with crab when it’s time to pull them back up. The only thing that would make this a better day, would be lots of sunshine (don’t forget your sunscreen)!

Looking For A Boat?
If crabbing sounds like something you want to get into, you need a boat (if you don’t already have one).
If you need help deciding which boat to buy, this FREE Boat-Buying Worksheet can help you get started!
Learn The Ropes
If you’re new to this, before you launch, you’ll need to learn the ropes of beginner boating and crabbing.
Visit the Boater Safety Education website to learn about courses and requirements for your area. As stated on their website, “Boating safety is a concern for everyone on the water. Even if you’re not required to pass a boater safety course in your state or province, boater safety is everyone’s responsibility. Boaters can keep themselves and their passengers safe by learning about responsible boat operation, etiquette, and the rules of the waterways. An educated boater is a safer boater.”
If you want to learn more, you can spend hours scouring the Internet, or you could get a jumpstart by learning from someone with first-hand knowledge. My husband, Pete, has many years of boating and crabbing experience.
A Note From Pete

Hey, I’m Pete!
Boating has been a passion of mine since childhood!
As I got older, I continued boating with my wife, friends, extended family, and later with our kids. Over the years, we’ve owned numerous boats.
We have had so much fun—cruising, crabbing, fishing, shrimping, water skiing, tubing, skurfing, kneeboarding, wakeboarding, and waverunning.
Prior to having kids, we were out on the water together a lot!
But, there came a time when boating gave way to countless hours in gymnasiums watching and coaching our kids’ year-round basketball teams, which we thoroughly enjoyed.
Now we’ve come full circle, and we’re getting back on the water together!
