If you’ve started a blog (or you’re thinking about it), you’ve probably heard that Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is important—but what does that actually mean for you?
As an Empty Nester Mom stepping into the world of Online Business, it can feel a little overwhelming at first. The good news is, you don’t need to know everything right away to get started.
SEO is what helps your website show up online, bringing organic traffic to your blog. The goal is to turn that traffic into customers.
A conversion could include someone purchasing a product through one of your affiliate links, buying your digital or physical product, or simply joining your email list. Optimizing your blog posts for SEO helps get your ideal customer in front of those opportunities—and that’s where the real growth begins.
How To Learn About SEO
Now that you understand why SEO matters, the next step is figuring out how to actually learn it. The good news is that SEO doesn’t have to be overwhelming—you can start small and build your knowledge over time.
When creating your blog, you want to optimize your posts so the right people can find them. This is called organic traffic—visitors who are actively searching for the topics you write about. These are your ideal readers, your Ideal Client Avatar (ICA), and this is the type of traffic that matters most because they are already interested in what you offer.
The ultimate goal is to get your posts in front of them, ideally on page one of Google’s Search Engine Results Page (SERP), or even better, at the very top.
Here are some practical ways to learn SEO and start attracting the right audience:
- Read beginner-friendly guides—Start with clear, actionable resources that explain SEO in plain language.
- Follow SEO blogs and experts—Keep up with trends and tips from experienced bloggers.
- Experiment on your own site—Try implementing keywords, optimizing titles, and adding meta descriptions. Testing as you go helps you learn faster.
- Use SEO tools—Tools like Keysearch can help you see how your blog is performing and where to improve.
By combining these strategies, you’ll start seeing real progress and attracting the right audience to your blog. SEO becomes much easier when you approach it step by step—and it’s an essential skill for building a successful Online Business.
Keyword Research For Good SEO
One of the first steps to getting your blog posts found is choosing the right keywords. This is where keyword research comes in.

This page may contain affiliate links, which means I will receive a commission if you purchase through my links, at no extra cost to you. Please read full disclosure for more information. As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases.
When starting your blog, you’re likely so excited that your head is just swimming with ideas of things to write about!
But, before you start pounding the keyboard, you’ll need to do some keyword research.
As we all know, people go to Google, Pinterest, and YouTube to search for information and answers to their problems, as they are among the biggest search engines.
You need to determine what keywords people are searching for within your blog’s niche, so that your helpful, valuable content will pop up in their search.
How To Find Popular Keywords For Your Blog Posts
A keyword can be one word, or it can be several words (the latter also known as a keyword phrase, or long-tailed keyword).
One of the easiest ways to find the most popular keywords, in your Niche, is to use the Google search bar.
For example, let’s say that your blog is all about fishing, and you want to create a post that focuses on the keyword phrase, “best fishing lures.”
If you type “best fishing lures” in the Google search bar, you’ll notice related keywords appear below the search bar, ie:
- best fishing lures for bass
- best fishing lures for trout
- best fishing lures for freshwater
- etc.
Those phrases are “popular related keywords” (what many people are searching for), thus giving you many more post ideas!
Creating posts using popular keywords helps your blog posts to rank (to be found more easily in Google searches).
SEO Keyword Research Tools
There are many other ways you can find popular keywords for SEO—take some time to learn about the following keyword research tools to decide which one you want to use:
- Keysearch
- Keywords Everywhere
- Ahrefs
- Semrush

Another good way to learn about SEO is by watching YouTube videos created by SEO experts, such as Neil Patel. He says that 93% of all online experiences start with a search engine, so in order to lead people to your blog and eventually your own products, you need to learn SEO.
Learning SEO is a powerful step toward growing your blog, but it’s just one piece of building a successful Online Business.
